Welcome to the world of the "Men of Sunday". In a world that often frowns upon the display of faith or adoration for our Lord and Savior, Jesus, most fields of the NFL have become a showground for men of faith.
I sat down during the start of football games this morning (1100am) and just could not put down this book. By the start of the evening game, I had finished. This book is all about how faith guides some of the players, coaches, wives/girlfriends of the NFL. This book is full of vignettes from some of the NFL's greatest players and coaches of all time. This book also gives honor and status to one group of people that most NFL fans forget about for the most part... the Team Chaplains. While reading this book it was hard not to think about the untimely deaths of two NFLers in the past two weeks... one from a murder/suicide situation and the other from a vehicular accident. Through reading this book, I was able to understand how the rest of the players from the teams affected were able to get out on the field only days after tragedy hit their teams.
It was interesting to read how different teams use faith as part of the game... some coaches guide every decision they make only after a lot of prayer, while others gather the entire team before the game into a time of prayer.
This book also deals with some of the temptations that players face from the perspectives of the players, coaches and even the wives of the players.
With riveting stories from such greats as Ray Lewis, Aaron Rodgers, Mike Singletary, Ladainian Tomlinson, Tony Dungy and many others, this is an absolute treat for any football fan to read.
